Mixed Reactions from School Principals on CBSE’s 2026 Decision to Hold Class 10 Board Exams Twice a Year

School principals across the country have expressed mixed reactions to the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) decision to conduct Class 10 board exams twice a year starting from the 2026 academic session.“Most educators appreciated the decision for offering students more breathing room and lowering exam pressure. However, some also highlighted a few practical areas that would need smart planning to make the transition smooth.”

According to the new CBSE guidelines, students will take their first board exam in February, and those who wish to improve their scores can opt for a second optional exam in May. This change aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes reducing exam-related pressure by allowing multiple attempts.
