Mixed Reactions from School Principals on CBSEโ€™s 2026 Decision to Hold Class 10 Board Exams Twice a Year

School principals across the country have expressed mixed reactions to the Central Board of Secondary Educationโ€™s (CBSE) decision to conduct Class 10 board exams twice a year starting from the 2026 academic session.โ€œMost educators appreciated the decision for offering students more breathing room and lowering exam pressure. However, some also highlighted a few practical areas that would need smart planning to make the transition smooth.โ€

According to the new CBSE guidelines, students will take their first board exam in February, and those who wish to improve their scores can opt for a second optional exam in May. This change aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes reducing exam-related pressure by allowing multiple attempts.
